Clonmel, Co. Tipperary
Clonmel (population 17,000) is the capital of Tipperary South Riding. It lies on the River Suir, on the Tipperary-Waterford border.
Attractions

Tipperary South Riding County Museum. Open Tuesday to Saturday all year.

The Museum of Transport in Richmond Mill, Market Place. Open Monday-Saturday.

The Franciscan Friary, featuring a 15th-century tower.

The Main Guard, the oldest public Classical building in Ireland. The facade visible today, dating back to 1674, was a courthouse built by James Butler, the first Duke of Ormonde.

The town walls, dating back to the 15th century.

Old Saint Mary's Church, built in 1204.

Clonmel's Greyhound Track, racing is held on Mondays and Thursdays at 8 pm.

Powerstown Park Racecourse, north of the town, holds several meetings throughout the year.

The town has several swimming pools and gyms, as well as a pitch and putt club and two nearby golf clubs: Clonmel Golf Club in Lyreanearla (Tel.052-24050/21138) and Slievenamon Golf Course on the Fethard Road.
Transport

Clonmel is on Bus Éireann's Limerick-Waterford route (six buses a day), which has connections at Waterford for Rosslare ferry port.

There are four Bus Éireann Expressway buses to Dublin, and three to Cork.

There is one train a day from Cork to Rosslare ferry port that stops at Clonmel. If you must travel by train to Dublin, you have to get the Cork train and change at Limerick Junction or get the Rosslare train and change at Waterford. There is also a shuttle bus to Limerick Junction in the morning and back again in the evening.
